Tactics and Tips for Selling Your Books on Consignment Whether you’re indie or traditionally published, placing books into stores on consignment can be daunting. Here are some tactics and tips to help you through the process. Tactic: Approach the owner/manager with professionalism. Most independent book stores are supportive of local authors and love books set in or near their locale, so don’t be shy.   However, do email or call ahead. Speak with the manager and ask for the best time to drop Tip: Be prepared to give a short summary of the book if asked. Offer to provide signed copies. Tactic: When deciding what to charge, expect a 40/60 split on the selling price of the book: The store keeps 40 percent, you get 60 percent. However, the base cost of the book and any shipping expenses come out of your 60 percent, so you’ll want to factor in those costs. Tip: Take the managers advice. Book stores generally let you set the price, but the manager knows her customers and if she recommends something lower or higher, go with it. Tactic: Get it in Writing. When you drop off your books, take along a consignment agreement. Many stores will already have one with the terms they prefer and will be happy to email or fax it to you ahead of time. Busy store owners appreciate when the paperwork is filled out in advance.   Keep a copy for yourself. Tip: You can find sample agreement forms online in case you need to make your own. Tactic: Create an invoice. A typical length of consignment is 90 days, but you can invoice and expect payment for any books sold every 30 days. Specify in advance what should be done with any unsold books after the agreed time - will you let the store keep them longer or will you pick them up? Tip: Take invoices along with you when you deliver the books for the rare store that is willing to pay you up front (this is more likely to happen with stores that sell your books regularly and with whom you have a relationship already established). Tactic: Keep good records. Use Excel or a similar spreadsheet system to keep data on: = The store name, owner/manager’s name, address, phone number and email; = Date of delivery, number of books, and selling price; = Date of payment, invoice number, and number of outstanding books (those still unsold) = When to make follow up contact. Tip: Create a separate spreadsheet page for each store; you can put multiple books on the same store page. Tactic: Promote your books! Unless the store manager is willing to feature your books in the front window or in a special â€Å"regional authors† section, the books won’t sell themselves. Get the word out about where people can buy your books using social media like Facebook. Include information on where to buy your books on your website and in newsletters. Send email notices to anyone you know who lives near the stores and ask them to forward your email to friends and relatives. Tip: Offer to do a book signing at the store. However, know that the most successful book signings happen when the author puts time and effort into promoting the event. One final tip: Want to increase your book’s exposure? Think outside the box- do you have a connection with a neighborhood coffee or gift shop? Does your book have a theme such as quilting or chocolates that would make it attractive to a specialty store? This guide will go over what rolling admission means as you apply to college and also provide you with a complete list of colleges with rolling admissions. What Is Rolling Admission? Rolling admission is an application option that allows you to apply within a window of time. This window usually opens up in the fall, commonly September 1, and lasts through the spring, or until all spots in the upcoming class have been filled. This option differs from regular decision, early action, and early decision, whichall have set deadlines and are unlikely to accept a late application. That being said, the fact that rolling admission colleges will accept your application throughout the year doesn't take the pressure off completely.As I mentioned above,the application window will be open until all spots have been filled. Admissions committees review applications as they roll in and send back a decision soon after. Typically, you'll hear back four to eight weeks after you apply. In some cases, you might hear back just two weeks later! Additionally, some schools with rolling admissions still have deadlines. Michigan State divides their admission process into three stages: early action, regular, and rolling. If you apply before November 1, you're considered an early action applicant. Both regular and rolling admissions applicants submit their applications after February 1. The only difference between these three types of applicants is when you'll receive an admission decision. Early action applicants will get their notifications by January 15, regular applicants will hear by March 31, and rolling applicants will hear eight to 12 weeks after they submit their admissions materials. Also, while applying early doesn't increase your chances of admission, it does increase your odds of receiving scholarship money. If, however, these schools aren't on your college list, they could be a good fallback option should your other schools not work out. Treat schools with rolling admissions as if they have a fall or winter deadline, but keep in mind there are some that will accept late applications if you need to send one off last minute. When Should You Apply Under Rolling Admission? Because rolling admissions is done on a first come, first served basis, it's a good idea to get your application in as early as you can.Not only will submitting early ensure available space, but it will also demonstrate your enthusiasm for the school to the admissions committee. If you're really hoping to get in (which presumably you are for any school on your college list), then you should apply at least within the first half of the application window. Submitting by January should be a safe bet, but earlier in the fall could be even better if you're ready. Besides the motivation of finding out early and expressing your excitement about the school, you might also apply early in the window of time to meet a priority deadline.Eastern Michigan, for example, has a financial aid priority deadline of January 15 for incoming freshmen, though you can apply any time for admission up until July 1 for the fall semester. So much for rolling admission not having a deadline. If you really want to get in and your school has a priority deadline, you should take all necessary steps to meet it. Even if there's no priority deadline, you should set onefor yourself. Otherwise, it could be all too easy to keep putting it off. Not only could applying late in your senior year hurt your chances of admission, but you could also end up forgetting to complete certain key requirements. Don't be fooled by the lack of a deadline! There are still plenty of pieces to your application that require months of planning and preparation. The ones that especially call for forethought are your SAT/ACT, recommendation letters, and personal essay. If your school has a priority deadline in November, then your last chance to take the ACT or SAT would be in September or October of your senior year. Ideally, you'd have your test scores all set by the end of your junior year. This means you could take the test in the fall of junior year and again in the spring or summer before senior year, or even start as early as sophomore year for extra opportunities to test. While your school might have rolling admission, you'll still be prepping your application in your junior or even sophomore year. Another piece of your application that can't be left last minute is your letters of recommendation. Try to ask your teachers and counselor at least a month before you apply. You might also ask at the end of your junior year. Besides making the request, you also want to spend some time filling out a detailed "brag sheet" and reflecting on what would go into your ideal reccomendation letter. Finally, you could work on your personal essay over the summer. Just taking the time to mull over topics for a few weeks is a key part of the writing process. Even if it doesn't feel as if you're getting anywhere, your subconscious is turning over some good ideas! After, you'll want to spend time drafting, revising, and getting feedback from others. Some students end up changing their topics, so you want to have time to switch tracks in case you're struck with new inspiration. The application itself also takes time, as well as requesting documents from your school, such asyour official transcript. Convenient sampling had been used to gather data.The scale used for this research is highly reliable as it has been related to scales of many past researches. This questionnaire checks the impact of HR Practices (Training and development, rewards, recognition) on employee’s job satisfaction. Relationship of HR Practices and job satisfaction has been tested on a 17 items scale. All the items of scale h ave been taken from renowned past researche studies (Clifford, 1985) job satisfaction, (Rogg, Schmidt, Shull & Schmitt, 2001) training and development (beer, 1987) recognition, (Spector, 1995) rewards. Causal relationship between HR Practices and job satisfaction was estimated by using Regression analysis.According to the data collected the respondent’s average age for 25 or below segment is 31. 4 , for 26-35 is 26. 4, for 36-45 is 30. 0 and 46 or above segment is 12. 1; 55. 7% of the respondents are male while 44. 3% are female. Before allocating any sort of training activities to employees training need analysis should be conducted s o that managers should exactly know that which kind of training should be given to employee.If employee will feel training to be interesting and is according to the need of an employee than employees will actively participate in trainings and that training will be much more productive and source of satisfaction for employees. Employees will not only learn more but they will also exhibit the learned skills at the workplace as well which will enhance the employee performance and that will lead towards enhancement of organizational performance and then organizations will have satisfied employees.Rewards and recognition are both strongly correlated with employee job satisfaction which is an indication that how important employees perceive rewards and recognition for them in the public sector organizations of Pakistan. Future researchers need to study the relationship of job satisfaction and other HR practices in relation with public sector organizations of Pakistan. When other HR practices will also be investigated that will provide a very clear and broader picture to managers and it will be very easy for them to decide that which factors lead towards job satisfaction and which do not in public sector organizations of Pakistan.The in-depth analysis of compensation, promotion and performance evaluation practices can be very fruitful for the managers of public sector organizations and those studies will certainly increase the profitability and level of job satisfaction of employees. Professional Fighters Brain Health Study: Rationale and Methods Introduction: Head trauma is one of the leading causes of Alzheimer’s disease and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). It has been shown that many athletes that play in contact sports with head traumas have been verified to have CTE. However, there is an insufficient amount of data about the risk factors, early detectors, and interventions about Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. The Professional Fighters Brain Health Study (PFBHS) is a study that will prolong over 5 years with more than 400 mixed martial artists and boxers. The main focus of the PFBHS is to 1) to see if there is a relationship between head trauma exposure and other modifiers and changes in neurological functions and brain imaging over time; 2) to see the association between the behavior, brain imaging, and the brain functions in fighters; and last but not least 3) to see if there are any markers that indicate the declining of cognition and neurological functions as a result of head traumas. Using profession al fighters tends to be a superb for studying the neurological residue of repeated head traumas because they receive many blows to the head daily. When CTE is displayed, mechanism and even personality changes can occur.
